With Hannukah and Christmas just a few weeks away, our focus has turned to preparing for family visits, parties, and shopping for loved ones. While you are shopping for gifts, consider shopping for the new home you've been wanting. Conditions are ideal for getting both a good price on your new home as well as a low rate on your mortgage.
On November 30th, 2006, both the Baltimore Business Journal (BBJ) and the Baltimore Examiner published positive articles about the real estate market. The BBJ article stated, "A quarterly report from the Office of Federal Enterprise Housing Oversight says home prices nationwide in the third quarter were up 7.73 percent from the same quarter a year ago...Maryland ranked 10th nationally for year-over-year housing appreciation last quarter, with average prices up 13.2 percent from a year ago..." The Baltimore Examiner's article stated "While housing prices are regaining some footing across the country, increasing slightly in October after a rapid fall in September, prices in the Baltimore region continue a steady gain."
Interest rates are also on the decline. Another BBJ article stated "Long-term mortgage rates could soon fall below 6 percent if current trends continue. The weekly report from Freddie Mac says the average 30-year fixed rate mortgage fell to 6.14 percent, the fifth weekly decline...Lower rates may be bringing buyers back into the market."
