About Ashman's Hope

Ashman’s Hope is a thoughtfully designed enclave of charming homes nestled in the heavily wooded setting of Historic Franklintown, Baltimore.

Founded in 1837, the neighborhood was the first planned suburb in America. A warm feeling comes from the many original buildings and homes still standing. Ashman’s Hope common areas are designed by Tom Woolfolk, the prominent landscape architect. Plant species indigenous to Maryland set off the sidewalks and sunlit plaza at the center of the community. Relax in the comfortable sitting areas the plaza offers, amble down the stone paths, or chat with your neighbors. Stonedust driveways and gentle walks lead to each home, designed by award winning architect, RM Sovich of Canton. A champion of New Urbanist design, Sovich hoped that residents would experience a tight-knit community interested in quality design with a high level of detail.

About the Builder

Laurence Construction is proud to offer truly creative designs in our expertly crafted homes and communities. Since 1995, we have become well known for our high-end historic renovations of stately Baltimore City homes and apartment communities, and admired for our sensitivity to community concerns.

Laurence works hard to ensure that its projects fit into their surroundings. Neighborhoods are better after Laurence Construction has completed a project in them. Our advisory panel includes a former planning commissioner and the former chair of the Maryland Main Street program of the Maryland Historic Trust.

Every project, large or small, is created by premier architects and exclusive designers such as RM Sovich, Joe Leatherman of Leatherman Design and Landscape Architect Tom Woolfolk. Laurence Construction represents the best in New Urban Design and is committed to the principles of Smart Growth and green architecture.
